Tips to Safely Bank During the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak

With recent confusion and chaos surrounding the continuously evolving situation of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Suffolk Federal is reminding its members that their health and safety remains a top priority.   “We are living in challenging times and are here to support our membership.  Utilizing our premier banking tools and resources is a smart way to conveniently manage your finances and conduct your banking 24/7,” said Ralph Spencer, President & CEO of Suffolk Federal. “This includes transferring money between accounts as well as depositing checks, reviewing your online bank statement or even applying for a loan so that you don’t need to leave the comfort of your own home or car to keep a watchful eye on your money.”

Suffolk Federal offers several unique ways to continue to manage finances and take care of business while practicing social distancing during these trying times including:

Suffolk Federal’s Innovative Website
Suffolk Federal’s website allows members around-the-clock access right from the comfort of their home to banking products and services.  Using Suffolk Federal’s online banking platform, members can help alleviate stress when it comes to their finances. Diminishing the need for in-person contact, the online tools provide members up-to-the-minute information on their accounts along with the ability to pay bills, manage credit and investments, and even keep track of a budget. Suffolk Federal’s streamlined design offers efficient functionality with a mobile responsive, user-friendly experience guaranteeing that everyone has fast and easy access to useful tools, resources and information.

Suffolk Federal’s Mobile App
Suffolk Federal’s mobile app is another great tool that provides all the same access as the website including remote check deposit, bill pay, loan payments, conducting internal and external transfers and much more. Members are invited to download and activate the Suffolk Federal app which allows them to access and manage their accounts digitally on a phone or smart device no matter where a member may be located.

Direct Deposit for Paychecks and Automatic Bill Pay
If not already enrolled, members should consider taking advantage of the opportunity to have paychecks, retirement and/or government-issued checks directly deposited into their Suffolk Federal account.  Members can also program automatic bill pay so a payment is never late or missed again.

Member Telephone Service
The credit union’s toll-free automated member telephone service (1-800-833-7328) which is available 24 hours, 7 days a week offers easy access to your accounts.

ATM Banking
For banking “on-the-go,” members can complete basic transactions such as check deposits or obtaining cash withdrawals, Suffolk Federal has over 71,000 surcharge-free ATMs available through the Allpoint® Network, which are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Network ATMs can be found at 7-Eleven, Walgreens, Target, CVS, Costco, Speedway, Rite Aid and many more retail locations. Members can also access their accounts in over 30+ surcharge-free King Kullen ATMs throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties in New York.

Drive-Thru Banking
For members who need access to branches, Suffolk Federal encourages use of their drive-thru service window when available current banking hours.


In an effort to reduce the possible spread of the virus, Suffolk Federal has an abundance of cleaning procedures in place which includes disinfecting work areas and public spaces as well as equipment and providing hand sanitizers to Suffolk Federal Team Members to ensure they can safely administer and handle members’ business needs.  In addition to the drive-thru lanes, members may also use night drop boxes (where available).

Security Note:  The security of Suffolk Federal members and its team is of utmost importance.  Should a member be wearing a mask for protection, Suffolk Federal kindly asks the member to remove the mask when utilizing the drive-thru service window.  The credit union also strongly discourages large cash withdrawals which may provide an opportunity for those with malicious intent to take an unfair advantage of any members.

Avoiding Scams and Frauds
In every crisis, unfortunately, there are people who try to take advantage of others by committing fraud.  Please note that Suffolk Federal will never contact a member with a phone call or text message to request PIN numbers, account numbers, password, mother’s maiden name, social security number or any other confidential and secure information.  “As always, we remind everyone to practice smart safety by never revealing sensitive information over the phone or text. Everyone should also be cautious of any social media pleas related to COVID-19,” explains Spencer.
