Suffolk Federal is proud to announce the promotion of Sarah McCandless to Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer. In this position, McCandless is responsible for the oversight of Suffolk Federal’s Finance, Accounting, Information Technology, Deposit Operations and Compliance departments, ensuring that all strategic and tactical initiatives throughout each area are successfully carried out.
She works alongside Suffolk Federal’s President & CEO, Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee and interdepartmentally with staff to provide the support needed to make intelligent business decisions. McCandless additionally provides mentorship to employees within her departments in an effort to support staff development. She serves as the Chair of Suffolk Federal’s ALCO Committee, and is a member of the IT Steering Committee, Information Security Committee, Management Loan Committee and Security Committee. Prior to this promotion, McCandless served as the credit union’s Chief Financial Officer for nearly four years.

Prior to joining Suffolk Federal, McCandless held positions including Vice President and Controller at Bridgehampton National Bank in Bridgehampton, and Director of Financial Planning & Analysis at Screenvision in New York. She was also previously employed at Banc of America Securities LLC, Lazard Frères & Company LLC, and Ernst & Young LLP.
A Certified Public Accountant and member of the American Institute of CPAs, McCandless is a graduate of Boston College where she earned her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Accounting (cum laude). At Boston College she was also inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society.
McCandless serves on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County and Treasurer of the Sag Harbor PTA. She is additionally a member of the AICPAs and the New York State Society of CPAs. She is a former volunteer of the Finance Committee at Most Holy Trinity Church, the Ernst & Young LLP Mentoring Program, the JPMorgan Corporate Challenge, the Association of Retarded Citizens and the Children’s Museum of the East End.
McCandless resides in Sag Harbor with her two daughters.
