Suffolk Federal is proud to announce that Laura Racioppi, AVP/Executive to the CEO at the credit union, has been appointed to the Executive Board of Trustees as Treasurer of the LT Michael Murphy Navy SEAL Museum/Sea Cadet Training Facility. This facility will serve as a memorial in honor of Patchogue native, Michael P. Murphy who lost his life in battle in 2005, as well as all United States Naval Special Warfare Operators who have not only served, but have also sacrificed their lives to protect the freedoms of our country.
In this position, Racioppi is responsible for managing the financial assets involving fundraising efforts, the upcoming build and other monetary transactions for the museum. New York State Senator Thomas D. Croci has allocated a $400,000 grant for the museum, leaving an estimated $3 to $4 million cost to be raised by a dedicated foundation.
“Initially, I was a volunteer on the Building Committee Board and was later appointed by the Board of Trustees to Executive Board Treasurer, a position I hold very proudly,” said Racioppi. “As a mother of a cadet in the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps, LT Michael P. Murphy Division, I felt that this was the best way I could help support such a wonderful cause, and to be a part of something that will live on forever in Michael’s memory.”
The 11,000 square foot museum—designed by Architect Paul Dobiecki—is scheduled to be built in West Sayville next to the Long Island Maritime Museum in the Spring of 2018. It will be the first in the Northeast and third Navy SEAL museum in the country and will include space for Navy Sea Cadets to study and train.
Racioppi served as the former Treasurer of the Holiday Beach Property Owners Association, a community of 507 homes located in Center Moriches, N.Y. for 7 years along with Treasurer of the Masury Estate Ballroom Fund. The ballroom which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is owned and operated by the Holiday Beach Property Owners Association.
