Suffolk Federal is putting its ‘fins up’ as it introduces the brand-new Sharks Checking Program, designed to give back to the Suffolk Community College Foundation and Suffolk County Community College students. In addition to earning exceptional rewards, new and current members who open a Sharks Checking account will assist in providing scholarships to incoming students across the school’s three campuses – Selden, Brentwood and Riverhead.
Members who enroll in this exciting opportunity will receive a co-branded Sharks debit card, which offers 500 sign-on bonus rewards points through Suffolk Federal’s uChoose Rewards enrollment. Five cents of each signature-based transaction, with a maximum of $350 per card per year, will be donated back to the Suffolk Community College Foundation. The program is one of many Suffolk Federal ongoing opportunities which support the college’s foundation and benefit Suffolk County Community College students. Recently, Suffolk Federal provided $37,650 to local students through its scholarship program. The credit union has also offers free online financial education workshops to students from the college.
“As part of our ongoing relationship with Suffolk County Community College, we thought it would make sense to extend an opportunity to our members so they too can make a significant difference for the college and give back through purchases they would already be making,” explained Krista Svedberg, Vice President of Marketing of Suffolk Federal. “This is just one of the many ways we continue to implement unique opportunities to support and shape our future leaders of tomorrow today,” she continued.
As an added incentive, all Sharks Checking account members will receive special bonuses just for signing up. By completing online banking registration, members will receive a $20 e-Gift card to Amazon, Starbucks or Barnes & Noble. Those who enroll in paperless eStatements will receive an additional $5 e-Gift card to their choice of select retailers.
“Our partnership with Suffolk Federal is immeasurable and we cannot thank them enough for their continuous support of our students,” said Sylvia A. Diaz, PhD, LMSW, Executive Director of the Suffolk Community College Foundation. “We hope by carrying the Sharks co-branded debit card, Sharks Checking account members will be reminded of their generosity each and every time they swipe.”
“Suffolk Federal has continued to offer so many important resources and opportunities to our campus community and we feel such pride knowing that our students and alumni are receiving professional support along their financial journey,” said Louis Petrizzo, Interim President of Suffolk County Community College.
All Sharks Checking registration incentives are limited to one per household per qualified account, and do not apply to second or multiple personal gift cards. Donations will be made per signature-based purchase annually each December.
